Choose the fields supporters see

Decide which Impact Story and Update custom fields show to supporters on your impact story pages, update cards and embedded feeds.

Your impact stories and updates can carry custom fields, such as the community a project serves or how many people an update reached. You decide, field by field, which of them supporters see. A field you switch on shows in the About panel of an impact story, under each update on the impact story page and in embedded feeds, and can be picked as a small label on story and update cards.

Before you start: you need permission to edit settings. To add a field or change its field access, you also need permission to edit custom fields.

Show a field to supporters

Open the Supporter fields tab

Go to Settings > Impact Stories and select Supporter fields.

Find the field

Impact Story fields are the fields on the impact story itself. Update fields are the questions storytellers answer on each update.

Switch on Show to supporters

Each switch saves right away. Switch it off again to stop showing the field.

What still keeps a field private

Show to supporters decides what shows, but a field's field access in Settings > Objects & Fields is the limit:

  • Public fields show when switched on.
  • Team fields never show, even when switched on. The tab says Held back by field access and links to the field, so you can change its access to Public if supporters may see it. Making a field tagged as personal data Public asks you to confirm first.
  • Admin only fields are not listed. They never reach supporters.

A few more rules always apply:

  • A location answer never shows on an impact story marked Sensitive location.
  • A gated update shows its fields only to supporters who unlocked it.
  • Only fields shown to supporters can be picked as labels on supporter story and update cards, under Appearance.

Making a field Public in Objects & Fields no longer shows it on its own. Switch it on here when you want supporters to see it.
