Recurring gift split columns
Split recurring gifts across funds with one row per fund, and the columns the Recurring gift allocations import understands.
The Recurring gift allocations import sets how each installment of a recurring gift is divided between your funds, with one row per fund. Use it when a gift is split across more than five funds, or when your previous platform or CRM exports splits as their own rows. For one fund, or up to five, the recurring gift columns can carry the split in the gift's own row instead.
Only gifts that haven't started. A split file changes gifts that are Migrating and haven't been charged on Givable yet. Import the recurring gifts first, then the split file. A gift that's already live keeps its split; change it on the gift's page instead.
How a split file works
- Each row is one fund for one gift. A gift with three funds has three rows.
- A gift's rows replace its whole split. Funds not in the file are removed from that gift's split.
- A gift's rows must add up. Amounts add up to the gift's amount exactly, or percents add up to 100. Use amounts or percents for a gift, not both. A gift's rows can be anywhere in the file; Givable checks them together.
- A gift that doesn't add up is left as it was. Every one of its rows is marked with what's wrong, so you can fix the file and upload it again. The other gifts in the file aren't held up.
- Up to 20 funds per gift, and each fund once.
To start, go to Settings > Imports, select New import and choose Recurring gift allocations, or select Import splits on the Recurring migration page. Both places offer the template and the column guide.
Columns
Each row names its gift in one of three ways. Use whichever your export has.
| Column | What goes in it |
|---|---|
| Recurring gift Givable ID | The gift's Givable ID, for example RR2SXJW8. Find it on the recurring gift list or in a recurring gift export. |
| Recurring gift Salesforce id | The gift's id in your CRM, for gifts synced from it. |
| Previous recurring id | The gift's id on your previous platform, as given in the recurring gift import, for example a Stripe subscription id. |
| Fund | The fund's Givable ID, for example FUQ69AD8. |
| Amount | This fund's share of each installment, in the gift's currency, for example 15.00. |
| Percent | This fund's share as a percent, up to two decimals, for example 60 or 33.33. Givable turns percents into amounts to the cent, and they always add up to the gift's amount exactly. |
| Benefit value | Optional. The value of anything the donor receives for each installment from this fund, which isn't receiptable. |
| Receiptable amount | Optional, a cross-check only. Givable works out the receiptable amount from your fund settings and flags a row where yours differs. |
CRM allocation exports map themselves. Export your recurring gift allocations from your CRM with the fields above, and the columns are matched when you upload.
Read the preview by gift
After validating, the preview opens By gift: one line per gift, with its Givable ID, its amount, the split Givable worked out, the rows of your file it came from, and whether it's ready. A gift that doesn't add up shows what its rows asked for and what's wrong, once for the whole gift. Select Ready or Problems at the top to see only those gifts.
Switch to By row to see each row of your file as it was, including a row that couldn't find its gift (a gift id that names no gift, for example).
Funds by Givable ID
Each fund's Givable ID is on Settings > Funds. Imports never create funds, and a fund name in the file isn't accepted: replace the fund or designation names your previous platform exported with these IDs before you upload. A row with anything else in its Fund cell is marked with what to put instead, and its gift is left as it was.
