Import a spreadsheet
Bring supporters, leads and saved payment methods into Givable from a CSV file.
Settings > Imports brings in supporters, leads for your marketing lists, and payment methods for recurring gifts, from a CSV file.
Before you start: you need permission to view and run imports. Export your data from your current system as a CSV, and open it once to see what's actually in the columns.
The seven steps
Type
What you're importing: supporters, leads, or payment methods.
Upload
Your CSV file.
Map columns
Match your spreadsheet's columns to Givable's fields. Your own custom fields are offered here too.
Options
How the import should behave.
Preview
See what will happen before it happens.
Confirm
Run it.
Result
What came in, and anything that didn't.
Read the preview properly. It's the step that separates a clean import from an afternoon of cleanup, and it's the one everyone skims.
Before you import anything
Fix it in the spreadsheet, where you can sort and search, rather than in Givable afterwards. Split names into first and last columns, put dates in one consistent format, and remove the blank rows at the bottom.
Gifts and giving history
Historical gifts come in through Batch Gift Entry, which takes a spreadsheet of gifts and creates any missing supporters as it commits. See Enter a batch of gifts.
Moving from another system
Email support@givable.com with an export from your current platform before you start. Moving systems is far easier to get right the first time than to unpick afterwards, and we've seen the shape of most platforms' exports.
