Currencies and cover fees
Choose the currencies supporters can give in, and how much they are asked to add when covering processing fees.
Two tabs under Settings > Payments decide what donors are offered at the moment they give.
Available currencies
This is the master list. Forms, events, peer-to-peer sites, stores and stories each pick from it, so turning a currency off here removes it everywhere.
Open Settings > Payments > Available currencies
A card at the top shows what you're paid in, which comes from your Stripe account.
Tick the currencies you want to offer
Search by code or name. Currencies that need no conversion are marked, since those cost your donors and you the least.
Choose a default currency
The one forms start with. You can only choose from the ones you ticked.
Save
Each form, event or page then picks its own currencies from your list, and decides whether supporters can switch between them.
Offer the currencies your supporters actually give in, not every currency you can. A short list is easier for donors and easier for you to reconcile.
Gifts in a currency other than yours are converted by Stripe before they reach your payout balance, which is why your bank total won't match the sum of the amounts donors typed.
Cover fees
When a supporter chooses to cover the processing fee, these rates decide how much is added to their gift. Givable starts you off with Stripe's standard rates, and nothing applies until you save.
For each payment method you set:
- Percent: the percentage added.
- Fixed: a flat amount added, in your payout currency.
- Maximum: the most a supporter is ever asked to cover, however large the gift. Zero means no cap.
Rows cover cards and wallets and bank transfer (ACH), plus PayPal and Venmo once PayPal is connected. A method without its own rate follows your card rate, and Givable shows what that works out as.
Set a maximum. Without one, a percentage on a very large gift asks a major donor to cover an uncomfortable amount. A cap keeps the offer sensible at both ends.
Percentages apply in any currency. Fixed amounts and maximums are in your payout currency and are converted for supporters giving in another one.
These are your organization's defaults. An individual form, event or page can set its own, and those win.
